2 Words Every Entrepreneur Should Know

The power of autosuggestion“I” and “am” determine what you can and will accomplish as an entrepreneur. Each word by itself means very little, but when you put them together, the phrase “I am” will make or break you. If you use them incorrectly, you'll never amount to anything. If you use them correctly, the world is your oyster.

Let me show you what I mean.

How to Use "I am" Statements Incorrectly

Most people subconsciously tell themselves the following "I am" statements more than they realize:

      • I am stressed
      • I am fat
      • I am stupid
      • I am confused
      • I am tired
      • I am bored
      • I am not good enough

If you think negative “I am” statements like these, you're sinking your own ship before you even launch. Let’s pretend you’re working on a major project at work and you keep thinking “I am stressed’. When you do that, you’ll attract everything into your life that helps you feel more and more stressed. Your blood pressure will rise, your heart beat will go haywire and you’ll notice everything that gets in your way of completing your project on time. The only thing that won’t happen is you getting the project done.

You get what you focus on in life. If you're the kind of person that's going to focus on doom and gloom, go right ahead but don't complain when doom and gloom show up on your door step.

There is a better way to live you life and run your business.

How to Use "I am" Statements the Right Way

What if you decided right now to manufacture some positive “I am” statements for yourself? Image saying the following statements out loud to yourself throughout the day!

      • I am sexy!
      • I am awesome
      • I am full of energy
      • I am grateful for this project
      • I am an amazing entrepreneur
      • I am capable and powerful
      • I am an amazing parent
      • I am an athlete
      • I am a rock hard body
      • I am a great salesman
      • I am phenomenal at my job
      • I am a leader

You get the idea. Look, I know this feels cheesy, but this is what the most successful people in the world do. The best entrepreneurs do not wake up in the morning thinking to themselves, “I am stupid, fat and stressed.” No. They have a system that takes care of their subconscious. They focus on being great even when they don't feel like being great. That's the difference between someone who makes $40,000 a year and someone who makes $1,000,000 a year. They're in control of their brains 100% of the time.

They give themselves the self-confidence they need to own their lives. If you would like to learn more about how how successful entrepreneurs think, check out this post.

Start Your Morning Off with Power

Find a song that really amps you up. For me, it’s Thunderstruck by AC/DC. Put it on every morning, turn it up loud and shout your positive “I am” statements before you start today. Do this for at least 10 minutes. Whip yourself up into a frenzy of unstoppable energy. Here’s the trick. Let’s say you are overweight. I don’t care. I still want you to say “I am Sexy! I am healthy! I am awesome!” If you do this every day, your brain will start to fill in the gaps and find the motivation and tools you need to become those very things.

If you really want to excel, do this every few hours. Why? Have you noticed how you tend to slow down throughout the day? Human beings tend to settle down into a rhythm and lose their momentum after working for awhile. If you cranked up the music ever 2 hours and shouted your "I am" statements, you would have a very different day. Trust me. I do it and it works.

If you think this is stupid, it's only because you haven't done it. You haven't felt that power of positive energy in your life. Do this every morning for 30 days and I can guarantee that you'll never think it's stupid again. In fact, you'll be healthier, wealthier and happier than ever before. As an entrepreneur, your business will take a turn for the better and you'll attract other positive people and opportunities into your life.

The power of vocabularyIf you don't believe me, then don't take the challenge. Instead, do the opposite. You can always act like Eeyore and see how that works out for you.

One final bit of inspiration

I'm going to leave you with a poem out of one of my favorite books, Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

If you think you are beaten, you are.

If you think you dare not, you don't.

If you like to win, but you think you can't,

It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost.

For out of the world we find,

Success begins with a fellow's will -

It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are.

You've got to think high to rise.

You've got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go

To the stronger or faster man,

But sooner or later the man who wins

Is the man who THINKS HE CAN.
